Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic is also a popular public speech writer. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency the website which provides commentary and videos on depictions of women's roles in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic and blogger. Feminist Frequency is an educational site for non-profit organizations that explores the representations of females in popular culture narratives. The challenge of destroying stereotypes regarding women is her main focus. However, Sarkeesian also highlights issues related to specific harassment of women on the internet and other minorities who are excluded. Sarkeesian is a graduate in social and political thinking from York University. As a public speaker, she is highly sought after and has been a speaker at TEDxWomen XOXO and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Passionate about issues of gender identity and feminism from the age of 7, she started her site Feminist Frequency in 2009, while she was still at university. It was a girl with a dream to develop the series of videos on the internet that would examine gender representations in video games. However, she became the target of cyber-bullying. It was not enough to stop her. Instead, it made her more committed to being a feminist and a media critic. Sarkeesian has been awarded many awards for her contributions to feministism.
